Group Mentoring
Iron Sharpens Iron Mentoring key staff members have received The Council Facilitator Training from professional representative from "The Council for Boys and Young Men" and also "The Girls Circle". This training has provided our adult mentors with a solid, progressive framework of applicable skills to facilitate a strengths-based program which we use to promote healthy boys and girls adolescent development.
The Council for Boys and Young Men program
A strengths based program that focus on developing trust and confidentiality between facilitators and mentees. Iron Sharpens Iron Mentoring group component is designed to meet the needs of up to 20 boys and 20 girls at one time, however they will be broken into groups of 6 to 14 per session. Each session runs for 10 - 12 weeks and during that time frame any new mentees will be placed in a new session. Tip: The sessions are not co-ed. We find that boys and girls work better in seperate mentoring groups, however there may be times when we bring boys and girls together. |
Girls Circle
A comprehensive strength based program exclusively for girls ages 9 to 18 years of age. Group size between 6 to 10 members that are facilitated by one or two trained persons. Chess - Peer to Peer Program
A rite of passage is a ritual event that marks a person's transition from one status to another. Rites of passage explores and describes various notable milestones in an individual's life, for any marked transitional stage, when one's social status is altered. The concept of rites of passage as a general theory of socialization was first formally articulated by Arnold van Gennep in his book The Rites of Passage to denote rituals marking the transitional phase between childhood and full inclusion into a tribe or social group.
